Iona Beach

There is a million ways to spend weekends and afternoons. Last year we hiked a lot. This year we bought bikes and biked a lot instead. A couple of weeks ago we saw on the Internet an interesting place near Vancouver. Surprisingly for a Regional Park, it’s located near the Airport. And because we have bikes it was much easier. Otherwise, we would walk there for hours.

The place is called Iona Beach Regional Park. And you can find it where the Fraser River meets the sea. It is home to a rare community of dune plants and because of it’s location – it’s in the midst of the Pacific Flyway – it is a mecca for thousands of migrating birds.

Walking the long peninsula, you can go 4km into the sea. If you are into birds watching or just want to take a very long walk, you should check it out.
